Jiayuguan Airport (IATA: JGN, ICAO: ZLJQ) serves as the primary air gateway to Jiayuguan City in China's Gansu Province. Its main role is to facilitate tourism to significant historical sites, most notably the Jiayuguan Pass, the westernmost fort of the Great Wall of China. The airport provides essential regional connectivity for both visitors and residents, linking this relatively remote part of the Hexi Corridor with major urban centers across the country.

Originally built as a military airfield in 1938, the airport has a long history, though its civilian operations were intermittent for decades. It officially opened to civil aviation in 1953 but underwent a crucial expansion and modernization in 2006, which established its current capabilities as a modern regional airport. This redevelopment was vital for accommodating the growing number of tourists drawn to the area's rich Silk Road heritage.

The airport is situated approximately 9 kilometers northeast of Jiayuguan's city center. The journey by road typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Travelers can access the airport via taxi, which is the most direct method, or by using the airport shuttle bus service. The shuttle bus schedule is generally coordinated with flight arrival and departure times, providing a cost-effective link to downtown locations.

Jiayuguan Airport exclusively handles domestic flights. It is not a hub for international travel. Major airlines such as China Eastern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and Juneyao Air operate routes connecting Jiayuguan with key cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu, and the provincial capital, Lanzhou. As a small regional airport, its passenger traffic is modest, handling several hundred thousand passengers annually. The facility consists of a single, functional terminal building designed for efficiency. Amenities for travelers are basic but sufficient, including check-in counters, a security checkpoint, a main waiting hall with seating, and a few small retail outlets offering snacks, beverages, and local souvenirs.

For travelers, arriving 90 minutes prior to a scheduled domestic departure is generally adequate. Taxis are readily available outside the terminal, but it is advisable to have your destination address written in Chinese. Since the airport is primarily an origin and destination point rather than a transfer hub, it is not optimized for flight connections. Passengers should plan for ample time and separate bookings if intending to connect through other cities.
