Located in Dingxiang County, the airport is situated approximately 33 kilometers (21 miles) southeast of Xinzhou's city center and about 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of the core scenic area of Mount Wutai. Travelers can access the airport via taxi or dedicated airport shuttle buses. Shuttle services connect the airport to both downtown Xinzhou and the tourist service center at Mount Wutai. The road journey to the mountain typically takes around two hours, offering scenic views of the Shanxi countryside. Taxis are readily available but arranging transport in advance, especially for the longer trip to Mount Wutai, is recommended.

Wutaishan Airport exclusively handles domestic flights, connecting the region to major hubs across China. Airlines such as China Eastern, China Southern, and Shanghai Airlines operate regular services to cities including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Chongqing. As a smaller regional airport, its passenger traffic is modest but steadily growing, primarily driven by tourism. The facility consists of a single, modern terminal building that is clean and efficiently designed for its passenger volume. Inside, travelers will find essential amenities, including check-in counters, security screening, a comfortable departure lounge, baggage claim services, and ATMs. Food and retail options are limited, consisting of a few small cafes, snack bars, and shops selling local souvenirs and travel necessities.
