Raja Haji Fisabilillah International Airport (TNJ), located in Tanjung Pinang, serves as the primary air gateway to Bintan Island and the capital of Indonesia's Riau Islands province. While smaller than the nearby airport in Batam, it plays a crucial role in connecting the region to other parts of Indonesia, supporting local administration, commerce, and tourism. The airport provides direct access to the southern and eastern parts of Bintan, which are distinct from the northern resort areas typically reached by ferry from Singapore.

Originally known as Kijang Airport, it was renamed in 2008 to honor Raja Haji Fisabilillah, a revered 18th-century Malay warrior and Indonesian National Hero from the region. This change reflects the airport's cultural and historical significance to the local community. A modern terminal building was inaugurated in 2013, significantly upgrading its capacity and passenger facilities to better serve the growing needs of the province.

The airport is situated approximately 10 kilometers east of Tanjung Pinang's city center, a journey of about 20-30 minutes by car. Travelers can easily reach the city or their accommodations via official airport taxis, private car hires, or app-based ride-hailing services, which are readily available outside the arrivals area. Its operations are predominantly domestic, with regular flights connecting Tanjung Pinang to major Indonesian hubs, most notably Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and Pekanbaru (PKU). Major carriers operating these routes include Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, and Lion Air. While it holds international status, scheduled international flights are infrequent and often limited to charter services.

The single terminal building is modern, clean, and straightforward to navigate. Facilities for travelers include a comfortable departure hall, check-in counters, and a basic selection of amenities. Passengers can find several small cafes and restaurants serving local and Indonesian cuisine, convenience stores, and souvenir shops. Other services include ATMs, a prayer room (musala), and car rental desks. For travelers, arriving 90 minutes before a domestic departure is generally sufficient. The check-in and security processes are typically efficient due to the airport's modest passenger volume. As the main entry point by air for government and business travel to the provincial capital, it remains a vital piece of infrastructure for the Riau Islands.
