Fares to various destinations, including Leh town, are fixed and displayed on a rate board. Passengers pay at the counter and are given a receipt to present to the driver, which prevents haggling and ensures a standard price.
Standard self-drive car rental companies (like Hertz or Avis) do not operate at Leh Airport. Car rentals in Ladakh typically mean hiring a car with a local driver. This can be arranged through the Taxi Union counter at the airport for point-to-point travel or through travel agencies in Leh for multi-day sightseeing tours. Motorcycle rentals are popular but must be arranged from shops within Leh town, not directly at the airport.
