Approximately 2006. This date is based on the cancellation of the FAA registration for the Bell 206B helicopter (N206BH) registered to Mulderink Corp at this location. Historical satellite imagery confirms the helipad was visible in the late 1990s but had disappeared and the area was repurposed by the mid-2000s.
Private operational change. The heliport was a private facility owned and operated by the proprietors of Mulderink's Landscaping Inc. for business and personal use. The closure was a direct result of the owner ceasing helicopter operations and selling or de-registering their aircraft. This was an economic or business-related decision, not the result of an accident, regulatory action, or military conversion.
The site of the former heliport has been fully integrated into the operations of Mulderink's Landscaping & Nursery. The exact location of the helipad is now an active commercial yard used for storing bulk landscaping materials such as mulch, soil, and stone, as well as for parking company vehicles and equipment. There are no remaining traces of aviation infrastructure.
The heliport, which used the FAA Location Identifier (LID) 8IL1, was a private-use facility with no broad historical significance to the public. Its sole purpose was to serve the needs of Mulderink's Landscaping Inc., a local business. Operations consisted of a single helicopter, likely used for corporate transportation, allowing company executives to quickly travel or survey job sites in the Chicago metropolitan area. It did not handle any public passenger traffic or commercial cargo.
None. There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The facility was purpose-built for a private owner who no longer operates an aircraft, and the land has since been completely repurposed for the company's primary business activities.
