Miller Aeroplane Field

The specific reason for closure is not officially documented. However, as a privately owned and operated airfield (also known as Miller Air Park), the closure was most likely due to personal or economic factors related to the owner, Robert Miller. Common reasons for the closure of such small, private strips include the owner's retirement or death, the sale of the property, or the increasing costs and liability associated with maintaining an airfield.

The site is now private farmland. High-resolution satellite imagery clearly shows the faint but distinct outline of the former north-south grass runway. The land has been repurposed for agricultural use, likely as a hayfield or pasture. The farm buildings originally associated with the property are still present, but there are no remaining signs of active aviation infrastructure like hangars, windsocks, or markings.

Miller Aeroplane Field was a private general aviation airport. It first appeared on aeronautical charts around 1970. The facility consisted of a single turf runway, designated 17/35, with a length of approximately 2,600 feet. Its operations were primarily for private, recreational flying by its owner and likely other local pilots. Given its rural location in an agricultural area, it may have also supported some agricultural aviation (crop dusting) activities. Its significance was local, serving as a personal airpark rather than a commercial or major public-use airport.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Miller Aeroplane Field. The land has been fully converted back to agricultural use for over a decade. The general aviation needs of the Wamego area are served by the nearby Wamego Municipal Airport (K81), making the reopening of this small, private strip highly improbable.
