The faint, ghostly outline of the former north-south runway is still barely visible under the crop patterns, but all airport infrastructure has been removed.
The original Kiowa Airport was a small general aviation airfield that served the local community of Kiowa, Kansas. Its earliest known depiction is on the 1953 Wichita Sectional Chart. It featured a single, unpaved turf runway (Runway 17/35) approximately 2,200 feet long. Operations were typical for a rural airfield of its era, primarily supporting private pilots, light aircraft, and agricultural aviation (crop dusting). There are no plans or prospects for reopening this airport. The land has been fully reclaimed for private agriculture. Furthermore, the community's aviation needs are actively and more effectively served by the nearby Kiowa–Tri-County Municipal Airport (K53), making the reopening of the old, less-equipped site both unnecessary and economically unfeasible.
