Constanța Palas Airport

Economic reasons and urban expansion. The airfield was located on valuable real estate within the city of Constanța. The land was sold to private developers for a major commercial and residential project, as this was considered a more profitable use for the centrally-located site. The city's general aviation needs were consolidated at other nearby airfields, primarily Tuzla Airfield (LRTZ).

The site of the former airport has been completely and irreversibly redeveloped. The land is now occupied by a major commercial hub that includes the VIVO! Constanța shopping mall, an Auchan hypermarket, large retail stores like Decathlon and Leroy Merlin, and several residential apartment complexes. There are absolutely no visible remnants of the former runway, hangars, or any other aviation infrastructure.

For decades, Constanța Palas Airport was the primary center for sport and general aviation in the region. It was the home base for the Constanța branch of the Romanian Aeroclub (Aeroclubul României). The airfield was actively used for glider training and flights, parachuting, ultralight aviation, and training for private pilot licenses on light aircraft like the Zlin Z-142 and IAR-46. It was the hub for the local aviation community and played a significant role in promoting air sports in Romania.

Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The complete redevelopment of the land into a dense commercial and residential area makes any future aviation activity at this location impossible from a logistical, safety, and legal standpoint.
