Regulatory enforcement. The airstrip was closed by order of the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC - Autoridade Nacional da Aviação Civil) due to a lack of the required official licensing and certification. The facility was operating without the necessary legal authorization, and the owner was instructed to cease all aeronautical activity until the situation was regularized.
The airstrip is permanently closed and unmaintained. The land is private property. Satellite imagery shows that the runway outline is still visible but is overgrown with vegetation and shows no signs of aviation-related activity. It is not fit for use and appears to have reverted to unused rural land.
Pista de Mouriscas was a small, private airstrip (pista de ultraleves) primarily serving the recreational ultralight and general aviation community. It was not a commercial or military airport. Its significance was local, providing a base for aviation enthusiasts in the Abrantes region. The facility consisted of a single unpaved/grass runway and was owned by a private individual who made it available to other pilots, supporting the local hobbyist flying scene.
Very low to non-existent. Following the closure order in 2018, the owner reportedly expressed an intention to complete the necessary legal procedures to certify and reopen the airstrip. However, these plans have not materialized in the years since. There are no known current public or private initiatives to reopen Pista de Mouriscas. Furthermore, the local municipality's focus on a potential new municipal aerodrome in a different location (Pego) makes the revival of this small, private strip highly unlikely.
Public non-certified airstrip near the town of Mouriscas. Runway in fairly good condition.
