Kalaupapa Airport (IATA: LUP, ICAO: PHLU) is a small, state-owned public-use airport that serves as the primary air gateway to the remote Kalaupapa Peninsula on the island of Moloka'i, Hawaii. Its role is unique and critical, providing the main transportation link for the few remaining residents, National Park Service staff, and the limited number of daily visitors to the Kalaupapa National Historical Park. The airport is an essential lifeline, facilitating the movement of people, mail, and vital supplies to a community isolated by geography and history. Established in 1935, the airport provided a much-needed, reliable alternative to the often-treacherous sea access that had previously served the Hansen's disease settlement.

The airport is situated on the flat, low-lying Kalaupapa Peninsula, which is cut off from the rest of Moloka'i by some of the world's tallest sea cliffs, reaching over 3,000 feet. Consequently, there is no road access from the main part of the island. Travelers can only reach the peninsula by air via LUP or by a steep, guided trail. The airport itself is located a short distance from the main settlement. Access to the entire peninsula is strictly controlled, and all non-resident visitors must obtain a permit in advance and be part of an authorized tour.

Operations at Kalaupapa Airport are entirely domestic and consist of short-haul commuter flights. The primary carrier is Mokulele Airlines, which operates services from Moloka'i's main airport in Ho'olehua (MKK) and Honolulu (HNL) on O'ahu. These flights are subsidized through the federal Essential Air Service (EAS) program, ensuring the community remains connected. The airport features a single asphalt runway and handles a very small volume of passengers annually, consistent with its role serving a small, restricted-access community.

Facilities at the airport are minimal, reflecting its size and function. There is no traditional terminal building, but rather a small, open-air shelter with basic seating and restrooms. Travelers will not find any restaurants, shops, rental car agencies, or lounges. For practical travel, it is imperative that visitors arrange their flight in conjunction with an approved tour company, which will secure the required entry permits. Upon arrival, tour operators meet guests directly at the airport, as there are no taxis or public transportation options. Visitors should pack any necessary items like water, snacks, sunscreen, and medication, as services within the settlement are extremely limited and not available at the airport.
