Bukidnon Domestic Airport (under construction)

Not applicable. The airport has not been closed as it has never been open to air traffic. The project has, however, faced numerous delays since construction began around 2018, primarily due to budget constraints, land acquisition issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The site is an active construction zone located in Barangay Maraymaray, Don Carlos. As of early 2024, major components such as the 1.8-kilometer runway, apron, and taxiways are substantially complete. Ongoing work focuses on the passenger terminal building, air traffic control tower, and other ancillary facilities. The temporary ICAO code PH-0454 is used in some databases to identify the project, but an official ICAO code (which will start with 'RP') and an IATA code will be assigned closer to its operational launch.

The airport has no operational history. Its significance is prospective and lies in its potential economic impact on the landlocked province of Bukidnon. When active, it is intended to handle domestic commercial flights, serving as a key gateway for tourism and trade. Bukidnon is a major agricultural hub (known for pineapple and sugarcane plantations), and the airport is expected to significantly reduce travel and logistics time for residents, businesses, and tourists who currently rely on airports in Cagayan de Oro (Laguindingan Airport, CGY) and Davao City (Francisco Bangoy International Airport, DVO), both of which are several hours away by land.

The facility is not reopening but is planned for its inaugural opening. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) are overseeing the project. While multiple target completion dates have been announced and subsequently pushed back, government officials have reiterated their commitment to finishing the airport. The most recent projections suggest a possible opening in the near future, but an official, firm date has not yet been established and is contingent on the completion of all remaining facilities and operational certifications.
