Approximately late 2017 to early 2018. Satellite imagery shows the runway was still intact in May 2017 but was being actively demolished and redeveloped by April 2018.
Economic reasons, specifically for land redevelopment. The land, owned by Lapanday Foods Corporation, was repurposed for a more profitable venture. It was converted into a large-scale, mixed-use real estate project called 'Ciudades Business Park' through a joint venture between Lapanday's property arm (Lapanday Properties Philippines, Inc.) and Robinsons Land Corporation. The strategic decision to convert the land for urban development rendered the airport obsolete.
The site has been completely redeveloped and no longer exists as an airport. It is now the location of the 'Ciudades Business Park' and associated residential subdivisions like 'Robinsons Highlands Ciudades'. The former runway and airport facilities have been entirely replaced by a network of roads, commercial buildings, and residential housing. The main road of the development, Ciudades Main Road, runs roughly parallel to the path of the old runway.
The airport was a private airstrip owned and operated by Lapanday Foods Corporation, one of the largest agricultural producers in the Philippines. Its primary function was to support the company's vast banana and pineapple plantations in the Davao region. Operations included agricultural aviation (crop dusting), transportation for company executives and personnel, and logistics for light, time-sensitive cargo such as machine parts. The airstrip, with a runway approximately 1,100 meters (3,600 feet) long, handled light general aviation aircraft, agricultural planes, and small turboprop aircraft.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted to a dense urban development. All aviation infrastructure has been removed, making any future use as an airport impossible.
