Several local taxi companies serve the airport and the community of Utqiagvik (Barrow). It is best to call for a taxi upon arrival, as they do not typically wait in a queue. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are not available.
Rental car options are extremely limited and are not operated by major national chains. Local providers offer a small fleet, primarily consisting of trucks and SUVs. It is highly recommended to book a vehicle far in advance of your travel dates.
There is no public bus or transit system in Utqiagvik. Many local hotels offer complimentary airport shuttle services for their guests; you should arrange this directly with your hotel prior to arrival.
I landed here at 2am on 7/30 after landing at Deadhorse around midnight. Night may not be the right word since it was basically a 4 hour long sunset/rise. Absolutely incredible
This is one of the most interesting places. Definitely worth the trip from Fairbanks to Barrow on a 737 Combi - the cargo and the passengers are together! A ceremonious crossing of the arctic circle by the pilot as well as a certificate from Alaska Airlines when you land!
