Dubai International Airport (DXB) is a primary global aviation hub connecting Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Serving as the home base for Emirates and flydubai, it is consistently ranked among the world's busiest airports by international passenger traffic, playing a crucial role in Dubai's economy and global connectivity.

Originally opened in 1960 with a sand runway, the airport has undergone extensive expansion to become the facility it is today. A significant milestone was the opening of Terminal 3 in 2008, a dedicated hub for Emirates' fleet, including the Airbus A380. This continuous development reflects Dubai's growth as a major center for international trade and tourism.

Located in the Al Garhoud district, the airport is situated approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) east of the city's traditional center. Travelers can access the airport via several methods. The Dubai Metro's Red Line provides a direct connection to Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, offering a convenient link to many parts of the city. Taxis, ride-hailing services, and an extensive public bus network are also readily available.

DXB handles a vast number of international flights from over 100 airlines, connecting to more than 240 destinations across six continents. While its focus is overwhelmingly international, it also facilitates a limited number of regional and domestic flights. Its passenger volume regularly exceeds 80 million people annually, making it a bustling and dynamic operational environment.

The airport comprises three main passenger terminals. Terminal 1 serves most major international airlines, Terminal 2 caters to regional and low-cost carriers, and Terminal 3 is exclusively used by Emirates and flydubai. Facilities across the terminals include the extensive Dubai Duty Free shopping areas, a wide variety of restaurants and food courts, numerous airline and pay-per-use lounges, children's play areas, and several in-airport hotels. Terminals 1 and 3 are connected by an internal transit system, facilitating connections.

For travelers, it is advisable to arrive at least three hours before an international departure to navigate check-in, security, and the sheer scale of the terminals. When transiting, passengers should verify their connecting gate immediately upon arrival, as walking times between concourses can be substantial. For those arriving in Dubai, the metro offers an efficient and cost-effective transport option into the city, while pre-booked taxis provide a reliable alternative. A 24-hour shuttle bus service operates between the three terminals for passengers with connecting flights.
