Metered taxis are available 24/7 from the designated taxi ranks outside the arrivals halls. Options include standard sedans, larger family-sized vehicles, and luxury services. Fares are regulated, and payment can be made with cash or credit cards. The service is managed by TransAD.
Major international and local car rental companies have desks in Skypark Plaza, located opposite the main terminal building. Providers include Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar, Thrifty, and Dollar. It is recommended to book in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.
Air-conditioned public buses connect the airport to various parts of Abu Dhabi city and its suburbs 24/7. Key routes include A1, A2, A10, and A40. Passengers must purchase a Hafilat smart card from the ticket vending machine at the arrivals hall bus stop to pay for their fare.
Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) is currently (October 2014) undergoing a huge transformation. If you fly into AUH right now you would be forgiven for thinking that you were in the middle of the biggest construction site in the world. At the moment, you would probably be right. But by the middle of 2017 you will be arriving at the most modern airport in the world. The whole airport is being rebuilt, including the new beautifully designed mid-field terminal, a new runway, and infrastructure associated with the movement of a vastly increased volume of aircraft and passengers.
And, while all this is happening, the airport is still operating without disruption. It is a credit to those who are managing the home of the best airline in the world - Etihad Airways.
