Official airport taxis are available 24/7 outside the arrival halls of all terminals. These operate on a fixed-rate basis depending on the destination. Ride-hailing apps, such as Snapp and Tapsi, are also a very popular and often more affordable option; they can be booked using their respective mobile applications.
Several local and internationally-affiliated car rental companies have desks in the arrival halls. To rent a car, you will typically need your passport, a valid national driver's license, and an International Driving Permit (IDP). Pre-booking your vehicle online is highly recommended to ensure availability.
Mehrabad Airport is well-connected to the Tehran Metro system. A dedicated branch of Line 4 (Yellow Line) serves the airport with two stations: one for Terminals 1 & 2 and another for Terminals 4 & 6. This line provides direct access to the city center and connections to the entire metro network. City buses also operate routes from the airport to major city squares like Azadi Square.
Went...and left from...there three times as a passenger. AIrport is always crowded, inside and out. Luckily travelling in business class and had access to the lounges, but no alcohol is allowed even there. I could have used a cold beer.
Most maojor traffic to Tehran is supposed to move to the newer airport farther south, Imam Khomeini International soon, if it hasn't happened already, but it's a lot farther from town. Think Mirabel vs Dorval.
