Mahan Air, established in 1991 and commencing operations in June 1992, holds the distinction of being Iran's first private airline. The airline is wholly owned by the Mol-Al-Movahedin Charity Institute and is headquartered in Tehran, Iran.
The airline's primary operational bases are Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport and Mehrabad International Airport. Mahan Air's fleet has undergone extensive modernization since 2006, and as of 2025, it includes various aircraft types such as Airbus A300-600s, A310s, A320s, A340s (A340-200, -300, -600), Boeing 747-400s, and Avro RJ-100s (BAe 146). In July 2025, Mahan Air acquired five Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
Mahan Air operates a comprehensive route network encompassing both domestic and international destinations. As of November 2025, it serves 26 domestic destinations within Iran and 16 international destinations across 9 countries, focusing on the Far East, Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe. The airline is not a member of any major global airline alliances like Star Alliance, SkyTeam, or Oneworld. Mahan Air offers two primary cabin classes: Economy Class and Business Class. Notable services include online check-in, a frequent flyer program called "Mahan & Miles," and in-flight catering featuring Iranian and international cuisine. Business Class cabins are equipped with ample legroom, adjustable head and footrests, and 42-inch LED TVs displaying live pilot camera footage during take-off and landing.
