Fares to major destinations like Belize City or the water taxi terminals are typically set at a fixed rate. It is advisable to confirm the price with the driver at the official taxi dispatch stand before beginning your journey.
Several major international and local car rental agencies have counters inside the airport terminal building, in the arrivals hall. Companies include Crystal Auto Rental, Budget, Avis, Hertz, and others. Vehicles can be picked up from the parking lot just outside the terminal. Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak tourist season, to secure a vehicle and potentially better rates.
There is no direct public bus service from the airport terminal itself. To connect with the national bus system, travelers must first take a taxi from the airport to the Belize City Bus Terminal (about a 25-30 minute ride). From the terminal in the city, you can access frequent and affordable 'chicken buses' to destinations across the country.
