Approximately 2012. The airfield was permanently closed and decommissioned to allow for the construction of the Huexca Thermoelectric Plant. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows a clear, intact runway in 2011, with initial earth-moving and construction activities for the new plant visible on the site by late 2012.
Land Repurposing for a National Infrastructure Project. The airport was not closed for economic, safety, or operational reasons. The land was acquired by Mexico's state-owned Federal Electricity Commission (Comisión Federal de Electricidad - CFE) to build the Central de Ciclo Combinado (CCC) Huexca. The decision was part of a national energy strategy, the 'Proyecto Integral Morelos', which required the specific location for the new power plant.
The site of the former aerodrome is now fully occupied by the operational Huexca Combined Cycle Power Plant. The runway, taxiways, and any associated structures have been completely demolished and replaced by the power plant's extensive infrastructure, including gas turbines, steam turbines, cooling towers, and electrical substations. The facility is a key, albeit controversial, component of the regional power grid.
Aeródromo Huexca was a small, private-use airstrip primarily serving the local agricultural community and general aviation. Its main operations included supporting crop dusting (fumigación aérea) for the fertile farmlands in the Yecapixtla region of Morelos. It also provided convenient access for private aircraft owners and local businesses. The airfield never hosted commercial passenger flights or significant military operations; its importance was tied directly to the rural economy it supported.
Zero. There are absolutely no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted for industrial use as a major power generation facility. Re-establishing an airfield at this location is physically and logistically impossible due to the presence of the CFE power plant.
