Arroyo Chinoso Airstrip

The owner likely ceased operations, no longer had a need for the airstrip, or lacked the funds for its maintenance. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to a specific accident, military conversion, or government order.

The site is currently abandoned as an aviation facility. The outline of the dirt runway is still clearly visible from satellite view, but it is unmaintained, partially overgrown, and shows evidence of being used by ground vehicles. The land is part of a rural ranching or agricultural area. The airstrip is not in a usable condition for aircraft.

Arroyo Chinoso Airstrip was a private general aviation facility. Its primary purpose was almost certainly to support local ranching and agricultural activities in the rural area southeast of Agua Prieta. Operations would have included private transportation for the landowner and potentially agricultural aviation, such as crop dusting. It was a simple dirt/gravel runway (approximately 1,500 meters long) and did not handle any commercial, scheduled, or public flights.

There are no known or published plans to reopen the Arroyo Chinoso Airstrip. As a private field, any reactivation would depend entirely on the initiative and investment of the current landowner. Given its state of disrepair and the proximity of the larger, public Agua Prieta Municipal Airport (MMAP), the prospects for its reopening are considered extremely low to non-existent.
