Approximately 2018. The heliport ceased operations following the death of its primary benefactor, Amparo Rugarcía de Espinosa Yglesias, in January 2018, and the subsequent donation of the entire complex to the municipality of Zacatlán.
Change of ownership and purpose. The heliport was a private facility built for the use of the Espinosa Yglesias family and the Fundación Amparo. After the foundation donated the property to the local government to serve as a public cultural and sports center, the private heliport was no longer needed, funded, or maintained for aviation purposes.
The site is now the 'Complejo Cultural y Deportivo de Zacatlán Angeles Espinosa Yglesias,' a public facility owned and managed by the municipal government of Zacatlán. The physical helipad, a distinct circular concrete pad, still exists on the grounds next to the main building but is no longer certified or used for aviation. The entire complex, including the former helipad area, is used for community sports (such as basketball and soccer), cultural events, and public recreation.
The heliport was an integral part of the 'Complejo Cultural y Deportivo de Zacatlán Angeles Espinosa Yglesias,' a major philanthropic project developed by the Fundación Amparo. It was named in memory of Angeles Espinosa Yglesias (d. 2007), the daughter of prominent Mexican banker and philanthropist Manuel Espinosa Yglesias and his wife, Amparo Rugarcía. The heliport's primary function was to provide private, direct helicopter access for the Espinosa Yglesias family, foundation executives, and their distinguished guests to the complex, which is located in a relatively remote mountainous region. It was never a public facility and exclusively handled private, unscheduled helicopter flights.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The site's function has permanently shifted from a private estate with air access to a public community center. Re-establishing it as an operational heliport is highly unlikely due to the change in ownership, lack of a specific need, and the costs associated with recertification and operation.
