Official, licensed taxis are available at the taxi rank directly outside the arrivals terminal. These are white vehicles with a 'TAXI' sign on the roof. A fixed fare of €31 applies for journeys to destinations within Rome's Aurelian Walls (the city center). The journey takes approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic. It is strongly advised to use only authorized taxis and avoid unsolicited offers from drivers inside the terminal.
Several major car rental companies, including Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, and Maggiore, operate at Ciampino Airport. The car rental desks and vehicle collection points are located in the P6, P8, and P12 car parks, which are connected to the terminal by a free, frequent shuttle bus service. It is highly recommended to book your vehicle in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to ensure availability and better rates.
Ciampino Airport is well-connected to Rome by several public transport options:
- Direct Bus (Coach): Companies like Terravision and SIT Bus Shuttle offer direct, non-stop services to Rome's central Termini Station. Buses depart from stalls opposite the terminal building. The journey takes about 40-60 minutes, depending on traffic, and is a convenient option if you have luggage.
- Bus + Metro: An ATRAL bus connects the airport to the Anagnina Metro station (Line A). From Anagnina, you can take the metro to key locations in Rome, including Termini Station, the Spanish Steps (Spagna), and the Vatican (Ottaviano). This is often the most budget-friendly option.
- Combined Bus + Train (Ciampino Airlink): This service, operated by Trenitalia, combines a dedicated bus ride from the airport to the nearby Ciampino town train station with a regional train journey to Roma Termini. This can be a fast and reliable alternative, avoiding city traffic.
Rome—Ciampino International Airport "G. B. Pastine" is the secondary international airport of Rome, the capital of Italy, after Rome-Fiumicino Airport "Leonardo da Vinci". It is a joint civilian, commercial and military airport situated 6.5 NM south southeast of central Rome, just outside the Greater Ring Road the circular motorway around the city.
The airport is an important hub for many low-cost carriers and general aviation traffic. It also hosts a military airport and the headquarters of the 31º Stormo and the 2nd Reparto Genio of the Italian Air Force. The airport is named after Giovan Battista Pastine, an Italian airship pilot who served in World War I.
Danger.
