Milos Island National Airport (IATA: MLO, ICAO: LGML) serves as the primary air gateway to the Cycladic island of Milos, playing a crucial role in its tourism-driven economy. As a small domestic facility, it primarily connects the island with mainland Greece, offering visitors a direct entry point to explore its renowned beaches and distinctive volcanic landscapes.

The airport officially commenced operations on January 17, 1973. Initially a basic air strip, it has undergone several upgrades to accommodate growing demand. The runway was paved in 1989, and a new, small terminal building was completed in 1995 to better serve passengers. Its history reflects the island's gradual development into a significant international travel destination.

Located approximately 5 kilometers southeast of Adamas, the island's main port and commercial center, the airport is easily accessible. The drive to or from Adamas typically takes about 10-15 minutes. Travelers can reach their accommodations via pre-booked transfers, rental cars, or taxis, which are usually available outside the terminal. A local KTEL bus service also connects the airport with Adamas and other key locations, with schedules often coordinated with flight arrivals and departures, particularly during the high season.

Operations at Milos Airport are almost exclusively domestic, with the vast majority of traffic consisting of year-round scheduled flights to and from Athens International Airport (ATH). The primary carriers on this route are Olympic Air (a subsidiary of Aegean Airlines) and Sky Express. During the summer months, flight frequency increases significantly to handle the influx of tourists. The airport handles tens of thousands of passengers annually, with a pronounced peak between June and September.

The facility itself is compact and functional, consisting of a single terminal building. Amenities are limited but cover essential needs. Inside, travelers will find check-in counters, a waiting area, and a small café selling beverages and snacks. Several car rental agencies have desks within the terminal. There are no air bridges, so passengers walk to and from the aircraft on the tarmac.

For a smooth travel experience, it is advisable to arrive at least 60 to 90 minutes before a scheduled flight, as the small check-in hall and security area can become congested during peak times. Pre-booking rental cars or taxi transfers is highly recommended, especially in July and August, to ensure availability upon arrival.
