Kithira Island National Airport "Alexandros Aristotelous Onassis" (IATA: KIT, ICAO: LGKC) is the sole airport serving the island of Kithira, acting as a vital gateway for tourism and a crucial connection for residents to mainland Greece. Opened in 1972, the airport underwent significant upgrades in the early 2000s, including a runway extension and a new, more modern terminal building to accommodate increasing traffic. Its formal name honors the son of the famous shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, reflecting the family's historical ties to Greece. The airport's role is particularly pronounced during the summer, when it facilitates the arrival of the majority of the island's visitors.

Located in the northern half of the island, approximately 23 kilometers from the capital, Chora, the airport is accessible only by road. The drive to Chora typically takes around 30 to 40 minutes, while reaching northern villages like Agia Pelagia is quicker. Travelers arriving at the airport rely almost exclusively on pre-booked rental cars or taxis for transport, as a direct public bus service from the terminal is generally not available. This makes arranging onward travel in advance a near necessity, especially during the peak tourist season when vehicle availability can be limited.

Operations at Kithira Airport are characterized by a distinct seasonal pattern. Year-round, there are essential domestic flights connecting the island with Athens, primarily operated by Olympic Air (a subsidiary of Aegean Airlines) and Sky Express. During the summer months, from May to September, the airport also handles a number of international charter and scheduled flights from various European destinations. Annual passenger volume is modest, typically fluctuating between 30,000 and 50,000, with a significant concentration of traffic during the summer high season.

The airport features a single, small terminal building with basic but functional facilities. Inside, travelers will find a few check-in desks, a single departure gate, a small waiting area, and a cafe-bar offering light snacks and beverages. Desks for several international and local car rental agencies are also located within the terminal. Given its compact size, navigating the airport is straightforward. For a smooth experience, travelers are advised to arrive 90 minutes before domestic flights and to pre-book rental cars or taxis. The limited on-site amenities mean that passengers should not expect extensive shopping or dining options.
