Taxi services, such as City Cab, are available to meet arriving flights and are typically located outside the baggage claim area. Pre-booking your ride is recommended, especially for travel outside of peak hours.
Several major car rental agencies have service counters located inside the airport terminal building, including Avis, Budget, Enterprise, and National. Due to the area's popularity and limited vehicle supply, making a reservation well in advance is strongly advised.
The Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA) provides bus service via its Redwood Transit System (RTS). The airport is a stop on the RTS Mainline route, which connects to nearby cities including Arcata and Eureka. Passengers should check the HTA website for current schedules and fares as service hours can be limited.
Arcata airport is plagued year-round by coastal stratus, even sometimes going below ILS minimums for relatively long stretches. But the airport cafe -- Silver Lining, in the main terminal building -- is pretty good for an airport cafe (their fish and chips worked for me, and I'm British), and the Arcata / Eureka area is a lovely place to stay (there's a good selection of Bed and Breakfast places in Arcata).
Note that smaller GA planes might find Eureka (Murray Field) just down the coast cheaper and more convenient if the weather's VFR or above Eureka's approach minimums, but Arcata's a good all-round choice in any case.
