Approximately April 2009
Relocation of emergency services. The helipad was the primary base for the Kyoto City Fire Department's Air Corps. In April 2009, the unit relocated its operations to the newly constructed and more modern Kyoto City Fire Department Minami Heliport (京都市消防局南部ヘリポート) in Fushimi-ku, rendering the Takamine facility redundant.
The site is no longer an active or registered helipad. The helipad markings have been removed, and the paved area is now used as a public parking lot and scenic viewpoint, often referred to as 'Takamine Parking Lot' (鷹峯駐車場). It is accessible by a winding mountain road and is used by hikers and tourists visiting the area. The site may also be designated by the city as an emergency staging area or temporary evacuation point.
Established in April 1980, the Takamine Helipad served for nearly 30 years as the crucial operational base for the Kyoto City Fire Department's Air Corps (京都市消防航空隊). Its strategic location on a mountaintop in northern Kyoto was vital for conducting mountain rescue missions, aerial firefighting in the dense forests of the Kitayama mountains, emergency medical transport, and disaster reconnaissance for the region.
There are no known plans or prospects to reopen the site as an active helipad. The fire department's relocation to a superior facility was permanent, and there is no reported commercial or private interest in reactivating the location for aviation purposes.
