Approximately mid-to-late 2000s (circa 2007-2008). Satellite imagery confirms the runway was clearly visible in 2002, but by 2009, the area was undergoing significant industrial construction.
Economic reasons and industrial development. The land was sold and redeveloped to create the Komatsu Noki (コマツ能機) industrial park. The value of the land for industrial purposes surpassed its viability as a small, private recreational airfield.
The site has been completely redeveloped and is unrecognizable as a former airfield. It is now part of the Komatsu Noki industrial park. The land where the runway once lay is now occupied by large industrial buildings, most notably a major factory for the Sanwa Shutter Corporation (三和シヤッター工業株式会社), along with extensive ground-mounted and rooftop solar panel installations. There are no remaining traces of the runway, hangars, or any other aviation infrastructure.
Awazu Airfield was a small, private airfield that served the local general aviation community. Its primary function was recreational flying, catering to ultralight aircraft (ULP) and possibly powered paragliding. It consisted of a simple grass or unpaved airstrip and basic facilities for local hobbyists and flying clubs. It held no major commercial or military significance. The identifier JP-2120 is a non-official code, likely used in third-party aviation databases or flight simulators to catalog airfields that do not have an official ICAO designation.
None. The land has been permanently and fully repurposed for heavy industrial use. The presence of large, permanent factory structures and energy infrastructure makes any prospect of reopening the airfield impossible.
