Approximately 2012-2013
Land redevelopment for renewable energy. The airfield was permanently closed to allow for the construction of a large-scale photovoltaic solar farm on the site.
The site of the former airfield is now completely occupied by the 'Centrale Photovoltaïque de Meyrargues', a large solar power plant developed by a company named CVE (Cap Vert Energie). All traces of the runway, hangars, and other aviation infrastructure have been permanently removed and replaced with rows of solar panels. The transformation from airfield to solar farm was completed around 2014.
The airfield, known locally as 'Base ULM de la Loubière', was a private facility dedicated to ultralight (ULM - Ultra-Léger Motorisé) aviation. It served the local recreational flying community in the Aix-en-Provence and Durance Valley region. Operations consisted of private sport and leisure flying by members of the local ULM club. The infrastructure was minimal, featuring a single unpaved runway (approximately 450 meters long, oriented roughly 07/25) and a small hangar/clubhouse area. Its significance was purely for local general aviation and did not involve commercial or military activities.
There are zero prospects for reopening the airfield. The land has been permanently and fundamentally repurposed for industrial-scale energy production. The significant investment in the solar farm infrastructure makes a return to aviation activities at this specific location impossible.
