Official airport taxis are readily available 24/7 outside the arrivals hall. These are typically cream-colored vehicles. It is crucial to negotiate and agree upon the fare with the driver before the trip begins. A ride to the city center of Antananarivo generally costs between 40,000 and 60,000 MGA. For safety, using these official taxis is highly recommended.
Several car rental companies, including international brands like Hertz and Avis as well as local agencies, have counters in the arrivals terminal. An International Driving Permit is strongly recommended in addition to your national license. Due to challenging traffic conditions in the city, many visitors opt to hire a car with a local driver, a service offered by most rental agencies.
The primary public transport option is the ADEMA airport shuttle bus (Navette), which provides a direct and affordable connection to the city center (terminating near Analakely). For a more local experience, public minibuses known as 'taxi-be' can be found on the main road outside the airport, but this option is often crowded, can be confusing for first-time visitors, and is not suitable for travelers with large luggage.
On November 6th 2014 I arrived at Antananarivo Airport at 23.35hrs. on Air France flight number AF934. Unfortunately I left my camera, a Canon S120 complete with a case and spare battery under my seat, A30. I informed our local guide who reported the matter to you. Has the camera been handed in to Lost Property? Sincerely, Frank Juckes.
