Official airport taxis, typically green in color, are the most common form of transport and are readily available outside the arrivals hall. Fares are not metered, so it is crucial to negotiate and agree on the price with the driver before the trip begins. A ride to the city center usually costs between 2,500 and 5,000 CFA Francs.
Several car rental companies, including international agencies like Hertz and Europcar, operate at the airport. It is recommended to book your vehicle in advance, especially during peak travel seasons. An International Driving Permit is often required. For those unfamiliar with local driving conditions, hiring a car with a driver is a popular and often safer alternative.
There are no direct public bus or train services that conveniently connect the airport to the city center. The primary modes of transport for arriving passengers are taxis or pre-arranged shuttles provided by major hotels. While Ouagadougou has a public bus system (SOTRACO), its routes are not practical for travelers with luggage coming from the airport.
We were there in Feb 2012 and the renovations appear to have been finished. Looks good.
delay in the renovation of the airport, but from what I heard on the radio, it should be finished by the end of 2011 ... count 2-3 month of delay ;-)
