The airport was closed in the mid-2000s, with most sources indicating the closure occurred around 2006.
The primary reason for the closure was the relocation of its main operator, the local aviation club Luftsportverein Ederbergland e.V. The club moved its entire operation to the nearby Allendorf/Eder Airfield (ICAO: EDFQ), which offered superior infrastructure, including a paved runway and more extensive facilities. This consolidation was driven by operational and economic factors, allowing the club to operate more efficiently from a single, better-equipped location.
The site of the former airport has been fully decommissioned and returned to agricultural use. The former grass runway is no longer distinguishable and is now part of the surrounding farmland. There is no remaining aviation infrastructure on the site. Any buildings that were associated with the airfield are now in private use, unrelated to aviation.
Nordenbeck Airport, known locally as Flugplatz Vöhl-Nordenbeck, was a 'Sonderlandeplatz' (special landing site) and 'Segelfluggelände' (glider field). Its significance was primarily local, serving as a hub for recreational and sport aviation in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district for several decades following World War II. It was the long-time home of the Luftsportverein Ederbergland. Operations consisted mainly of gliding (using both winch-launch and aero-tow methods) and flights by ultralight aircraft and motor gliders. The airfield was a key site for flight training and community aviation activities in the region.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Nordenbeck Airport. The land has been completely repurposed for agriculture, and the former operating club is well-established at its new location in Allendorf/Eder. Re-establishing an airfield would require significant financial investment, new and complex regulatory approval, and the reacquisition of the land, making any prospect of reopening extremely unlikely.
Hello,
the Nordenbeck Airport is no longer available. The airstrip is now farmland.
