New Sichuan Leshan Airport (under construction)

The site is an active construction zone. The project, officially named Leshan Airport (乐山机场), began construction in late 2022. It is being built in Guanjia Town, Wutongqiao District, Leshan City. The project includes a 4C standard runway (with plans for 4E), a terminal building designed to handle an initial capacity of millions of passengers annually, and other necessary aviation support facilities.

As a new airport, it has no operational history or historical significance. Its future significance is as a major infrastructure project for the Leshan region. It is planned as a dual-use (civil and military) airport. The primary civil purpose is to boost tourism by providing direct air access to world-renowned attractions like the Leshan Giant Buddha and Mount Emei, and to promote regional economic development.

The facility is not scheduled for 'reopening' but for its inaugural 'opening'. Construction is ongoing, with a projected completion and operational start date around 2025-2026. Upon completion, it will commence operations as a new regional airport for Leshan, serving both passenger and cargo flights.
