Circa 2010-2013. While often listed as 'closed', Elliott Field was more accurately 'de-listed'. It was depicted on the Toronto VFR Navigation Chart (VNC) as late as 2009 but was removed from subsequent charts by 2016. This indicates it ceased to be a publicly charted aerodrome during that timeframe, though private use may have continued.
Privacy and private use. The airfield was not closed due to accidents, military conversion, or economic failure. The most common reason for a private airstrip owner to request removal from public charts is to maintain privacy and discourage uninvited pilots from attempting to land. The de-listing transitions the strip from a known private field to a completely un-charted one, effectively making it invisible to transient air traffic.
The site remains an active, private airstrip. Satellite imagery as recent as 2023 shows a well-maintained north-south grass runway, a hangar, and an associated private residence. A single-engine aircraft is frequently visible parked near the hangar, confirming that the airfield is still in use by the owner. The property continues to function as a private home with a personal runway, but it is no longer registered or charted for public aviation knowledge.
Elliott Field was a privately owned and operated general aviation airstrip. Named for the property owners, its significance was purely local and private. It served as a base for the owner's personal and recreational flying activities. Operations would have consisted of light, single-engine aircraft such as Pipers or Cessnas. It was never a commercial airport, had no scheduled flights, and was not used for military purposes. Its presence on aviation charts for many years made it a known landmark for local pilots, but it always required prior permission (PPR) to use.
None. The concept of 'reopening' is not applicable, as the airfield never truly closed but simply reverted to exclusively private, un-charted use. There are no known plans or prospects for it to be re-listed on public aviation charts or opened for public use. Any change to its status would be entirely at the discretion of the property owner.
