Harpurhey Airport

The closure was the direct result of the death of the airport's owner, founder, and sole operator. As a personal, private venture built on the owner's family farm for his recreational flying, there was no entity or plan for its continued operation after he could no longer maintain it.

The site has reverted to its original agricultural use. High-resolution satellite imagery of the coordinates shows that the former grass runway is no longer maintained, is overgrown, and is now indistinguishable from the surrounding farm fields. The associated farm buildings and a structure that likely served as a hangar remain on the private property.

Harpurhey Airport was a private, unregistered grass airstrip located on the Oke family farm in Seaforth, Ontario. Its significance was not commercial or military, but deeply personal and representative of grassroots general aviation. It was built and maintained by its owner, Harold Oke, a lifelong farmer and passionate pilot who was a member of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). The airport exclusively handled small, single-engine general aviation aircraft, likely including the owner's personal and possibly experimental planes. It served as a classic example of a private 'farm strip,' a testament to an individual's passion for flight.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Harpurhey Airport. Its existence was entirely dependent on its late owner. The land is private property and has been fully re-integrated into agricultural operations. A revival of the airport is considered extremely unlikely.
