Circa 2011-2012. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows a clear, maintained runway through 2011. By 2013, construction had begun on a large building that bisects the northern half of the runway, indicating the airstrip was permanently closed by that time.
Redevelopment of private land. The airstrip was a privately owned field that was closed to allow for the construction of a large industrial/agricultural facility. This is a common reason for the closure of small, private aerodromes located on valuable land.
The site has been completely redeveloped. A large industrial feed mill and warehouse belonging to the livestock nutrition company 'Grand Valley Fortifiers' now occupies the northern portion of the former runway. The southern portion has been fully reclaimed as surrounding farmland. No visible remnants of the runway or hangar exist today.
Amaranth Airstrip was a registered private aerodrome featuring a single grass runway (approximately 2,400 feet long, oriented NW/SE) and a small hangar. Its operations were limited to general aviation, serving small, single-engine aircraft like Cessnas and Pipers. It was used primarily for the recreational and personal transportation needs of its owner and had no significant commercial or military history. Its significance was purely local to the private aviation community.
None. The permanent construction of a large industrial facility directly on the former runway path and the complete repurposing of the land make reopening the airstrip impossible. There are no known plans or discussions to re-establish an airport at this location.
