The airfield ceased active flight operations in the post-World War II era, likely between the late 1940s and early 1950s. The transition from an active airfield began in 1943 with the establishment of the RCAF Staff College on the site.
A combination of military conversion and urban encroachment. The primary driver was the reduced need for pilot training facilities after WWII, leading the military to repurpose the strategic site for the RCAF Staff College. This was compounded by the rapid residential development of North Toronto, which made continued flight operations in the area impractical and unsafe.
The site of the former airfield is now fully occupied by the Canadian Forces College (CFC), the senior command and staff college for the Canadian Armed Forces. The surrounding area is a well-established residential neighbourhood, also named Armour Heights. All traces of the original runways, hangars, and airfield infrastructure have been removed and replaced by the academic buildings, residences, and grounds of the college.
Armour Heights Field holds major historical importance as one of Canada's first military airfields. Established in 1917, it was a primary training school for the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) Canada during World War I, preparing thousands of pilots for the war in Europe. It was a foundational site for Canadian military aviation. During WWII, it was used by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) for various training purposes before being permanently converted into the RCAF Staff College in 1943, a predecessor to its current use.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening the site as an airport. Its current use as a critical national defence institution, combined with its location within a dense, high-value urban residential area, makes a return to aviation activities impossible.
