Approximately 2011-2012. The airfield was delisted from the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) and noted as closed in aviation community discussions around this period.
The closure was the result of the sale of the private farm on which the airfield was located. The original owner operated the strip for private use. Upon selling the property, the new owner was not an aviator and had no interest in maintaining the airfield, subsequently converting the land back to full agricultural use.
The site has been fully converted back into active agricultural land. Satellite imagery of the location shows that the former grass runway has been plowed over and is now indistinguishable from the surrounding cultivated fields. The farm buildings associated with the property remain, but there are no longer any signs of aviation infrastructure like hangars or runway markers.
Stratford Airfield was a private, registered aerodrome primarily serving the general aviation community in the Stratford, Ontario region. It was not a commercial airport. Its primary function was to provide a base for local recreational pilots. The airfield featured a single turf runway, designated 09/27, with a length of 2,600 feet. As a registered aerodrome listed in the Canada Flight Supplement, it was an officially recognized and maintained landing strip, distinguishing it from smaller, unlisted private strips.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Stratford Airfield. The land is privately owned and actively farmed. Re-establishing an aerodrome would require the current landowner's initiative, significant investment to restore the runway, and re-certification with Transport Canada, all of which are considered extremely unlikely.
