Culloden Airport

The specific reason is not publicly documented. As a small, privately-owned airfield, its closure was most likely due to a private decision by the owner. Common reasons for such closures include the sale of the property, the high cost of maintenance, the owner's retirement, or a desire to convert the land for other purposes, in this case, agriculture.

The site is now private agricultural land and is actively farmed. Recent satellite imagery shows that the faint outline of the former north-south runway is still visible as a depression or variation in the crops within a larger cultivated field. A building on the property, which may have once served as a hangar, appears to be used as a standard farm storage building.

Culloden Airport was a small, private aerodrome serving general aviation. It featured a single turf runway (oriented 18/36) approximately 2,300 feet in length. Its operations were primarily for recreational flying by the landowner and possibly other local pilots. It held no significant commercial, industrial, or military role but was characteristic of the many private grass airstrips that once dotted the rural landscape of Southern Ontario, supporting a local aviation community.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Culloden Airport. The land has been fully integrated into agricultural operations for over two decades, and the aerodrome has been officially and permanently de-registered with Transport Canada.
