Outer ULM

The airfield's closure was a voluntary decision by its owner and operator, Willy Beeckman. The primary reasons were the increasing burden of administrative regulations and complex paperwork required to maintain an operational license. Furthermore, the airfield's environmental permit (milieuvergunning) was set to expire and the operator chose not to pursue a renewal, effectively making the closure definitive.

The site is now private property and has reverted to agricultural use. The former grass runway is no longer maintained for aviation and is now part of the surrounding farmland, although its outline may still be faintly visible in satellite imagery. The hangars and any associated structures are privately owned and not used for aviation purposes.

Outer ULM (Vliegveld Outer) was a private grass airfield that served the recreational aviation community for over 25 years. It was exclusively dedicated to Ultralight Motorized (ULM) aircraft. The airfield was renowned among pilots for its friendly, informal, and welcoming atmosphere. It operated with a single grass runway (designated 07/25) and was a key local hub for sport aviation enthusiasts in the East Flanders region, providing a base for private ULM flights and fostering a close-knit community of pilots.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the Outer ULM airfield. The closure was a final decision by the owner, who ceased operations and allowed the necessary permits to lapse. The land's conversion back to full agricultural use makes a future reopening highly unlikely.
