LAN Argentina, later known as LATAM Airlines Argentina, was an airline that served Argentina for 15 years before ceasing operations on June 17, 2020. The decision to halt operations was attributed to challenging market conditions, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulties in reaching structural agreements with local industry stakeholders.
LAN Argentina was established in March 2005 as a subsidiary of LAN Airlines, which later merged with TAM Linhas Aéreas to form LATAM Airlines Group. It operated as LATAM Airlines Argentina following the rebranding of its parent company. The airline was structured with a 49% ownership stake held by LATAM Airlines Group and the remaining 51% by Argentine investors.
The airline's primary operational bases in Buenos Aires included Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP) for its short-haul domestic flights and Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) for its international and longer-haul services. Before ceasing operations, LAN Argentina's fleet primarily consisted of Airbus A320s and Boeing 767-300s. Historically, it also operated Boeing 737-200 aircraft.
LAN Argentina's route network encompassed 12 domestic destinations across Argentina. Internationally, it connected Buenos Aires with key cities such as Sao Paulo, Santiago de Chile, Lima, Miami, and Punta del Este. As an affiliate of LAN Airlines, it was a member of the Oneworld airline alliance from April 1, 2007, until May 1, 2020. Notable services, akin to its parent company LAN, included a "Premium Business" class. Traveler experiences indicated a focus on modern amenities such as in-seat entertainment, ample legroom, and quality in-flight meals, particularly on international routes.
