Eurowings reinstated direct flights between Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) on 9 May 2026, marking the Lufthansa Group LCC's return to the Bosnian capital after a COVID-era suspension. The route initially operates on Saturdays, with a second weekly frequency on Thursdays added from 2 July through 27 August to serve peak-summer leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives demand. The flight takes approximately one hour and 55 minutes.
The launch is part of a major summer 2026 expansion at BER, through which Eurowings is growing its Berlin network to 43 direct destinations across 20 countries, supported by nine based aircraft — the largest presence the carrier has maintained at the airport. Sarajevo is one of six new additions for summer 2026 alongside London, Lisbon, Naples, Olbia, and Kavala. Frequencies on existing routes including Mallorca, Split, Faro, and Larnaca have also increased.
At the Sarajevo inauguration, city officials and the German Ambassador attended. Mayor Benjamina Karić highlighted the route's significance for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European integration path, while Ambassador Jens Plötner said direct flights would strengthen 'tourist, cultural, sports, political and institutional ties' between the two countries, as reported by Sarajevo Times.
