🇮🇩 Dhoho International Airport

Dhoho International Airport (WARD (DHX)) is a new greenfield regional airport located near Kediri, East Java, Indonesia, approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Surabaya. It holds the distinction of being the first airport in Indonesia to be entirely funded by the private sector, specifically by the Gudang Garam Group through its subsidiary, PT Surya Dhoho Investama (SDHI), under a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme.

Type of Facility and Operations: Dhoho International Airport is designed to serve both domestic and future international flights, including Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. It aims to enhance regional connectivity, boost economic growth in southern East Java, and alleviate congestion at other major airports like Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. The airport is equipped with a modern passenger terminal covering 18,224 square meters, designed to handle an initial annual capacity of 1.5 million passengers, with plans to expand to 10 million passengers per year in its ultimate phase.

Notable Features and History: Construction of Dhoho Airport began in 2020. A key feature is its 3,300-meter long and 45-meter wide asphalt runway, capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350. The airport also includes a 62-meter-high air traffic control tower, cargo facilities, and comprehensive landside infrastructure.

Current Status: Dhoho International Airport commenced domestic commercial operations on April 5, 2024, with Citilink operating the inaugural flight from Jakarta. The official inauguration ceremony was conducted on October 18, 2024, by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi. As of October 2024, airlines operating at Dhoho Airport include Super Air Jet, Batik Air, and Citilink. The airport serves Kediri and surrounding regencies like Blitar and Nganjuk.
