🇨🇱 Guardia Marina Zañartu Airport

Guardia Marina Zañartu Airport (SCGZ (WPU)) is a public and military airport located in Puerto Williams, on the north shore of Navarino Island in the Magallanes Region of Chile. It serves as a small landing strip for light to medium-sized aircraft and acts as a strategic hub for tourism and scientific expeditions. The airport handles regular scheduled flights, making it the world's southernmost airport with such operations.

Notable features of the airport include its unique location across the narrow Beagle Channel from Argentina, with runway approaches partially over water and mountainous terrain to the north and south. Navigation is supported by a VOR-DME system. The airport is named in honor of Chilean naval officer Guardiamarina Ernesto Zañartu. Historically, the airport was the site of a significant accident on February 21, 1991, when LAN Chile Flight 1069 overran the runway, resulting in 20 fatalities.

Currently, the airport features a 1,440-meter (4,724 ft) asphalt runway. It accommodates both military and civilian aircraft, including operations by the Fuerza Aérea de Chile and charter flights by Aerovías DAP. As of April 2026, DAP Airlines operates flights from Puerto Williams to Punta Arenas six days a week, making it the sole airline serving this single destination. The airport is maintained by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Chile (DGAC Chile) and the Chilean Air Force.
