Type of Facility and Operations: Andersen AFB is a private-use military facility with an operational control tower that operates 24 hours a day,. It is controlled by Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) Joint Region Marianas and the host unit is the 36th Wing (36 WG). The 36 WG's mission is to support deployed air and space forces of the USAF and foreign air forces, as well as tenant units assigned to the base. The base provides approach and departure radar services.

Notable Features or History: Established in 1944 as "North Field" after the liberation of Guam, it was renamed Andersen Air Force Base in 1949 in honor of Brigadier General James Roy Andersen. It is considered the most important U.S. air base west of Hawaii and is one of the four Air Force Bomber Forward Operating Locations. It is the only base in the Western Pacific that can permanently service U.S. heavy strategic bombers, including B-1B, B-2, and B-52 bombers. The base was also one of the few locations worldwide where the NASA Space Shuttle was permitted to land as an Augmented Emergency Landing Site. Andersen AFB participates in annual humanitarian activities like Operation Christmas Drop.

Current Status: Andersen AFB is operational,. It has two runways, 06L/24R and 06R/24L, with lengths of 10,527 feet and 11,200 feet respectively, both with asphalt/concrete surfaces. The base is under the installation management authority of Joint Region Marianas. While continuous bomber presence (CBP) ended in 2020, bombers are expected to continue to deploy on an ad hoc basis.
