Type of Facility and Operations: Lyon–Bron Airport is a public airport dedicated entirely to business aviation. It is France’s third-largest airport for business aviation. The airport operates 24 hours a day and handles business aviation flights, including medical flights for evacuations and organ transport. It offers access to over 2,000 European and transatlantic destinations not served by regular airlines. The airport has a single grooved runway measuring 1,820 meters (5,971 feet). Services include aircraft de-icing, fuel (provided by TOTAL), hangar facilities, and 24-hour immigration services. Notable Features or History: Established in 1920, Lyon–Bron Airport became an international airport in 1924. During World War II, it was used by the German Luftwaffe as a military airfield and radar station, and later by the USAAF as Advanced Landing Ground "Y-6". In 1944, it was the site of a massacre where 109 prisoners were killed. After the war, it served as Lyon's main commercial airport until 1975, when commercial traffic moved to Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport.
Current Status: Lyon–Bron Airport is currently operated by Aéroports de Lyon SA and is part of VINCI Airports. It is committed to reducing its direct carbon emissions by 50% by 2025 (compared to 2018) as part of VINCI Airports' net-zero emissions strategy. In 2023, the airport is set to welcome the first 100% electric plane for use by flight schools, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions and noise pollution.
