Youngstown Warren Regional Airport (IATA: YNG, ICAO: KYNG) serves Youngstown/Warren, US.
Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport (KYNG/YNG) is a joint public and military airport located in Vienna Township, Trumbull County, Ohio, approximately 11 miles north of Youngstown and 10 miles east of Warren.
Type of Facility and Operations: The airport functions as both a public and military facility. It is home to the Youngstown–Warren Air Reserve Station, which houses the 910th Airlift Wing (910 AW), an Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) C-130J Hercules unit known for its aerial spray mission. While commercial service ceased in January 2018, the airport continues to accommodate private jets and small charter flights. The airfield operates 24 hours a day, supported by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), and police services. It provides fuel (100LL and Jet A), major airframe and powerplant services, and bottled/bulk oxygen.
Notable Features and History: Originally known as Youngstown Municipal Airport, its groundbreaking occurred in 1939 as one of the final Works Progress Administration (WPA) projects, with dedication in 1941. The airport was established outside Youngstown due to limited space within the city for its planned size. By 1993, it had been renamed Youngstown–Warren Regional Airport. The Western Reserve Port Authority assumed operations of the airport in 1992. The terminal has undergone renovations and expansions, featuring six gates (including two jetways) capable of handling aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 757, with a capacity for 250,000 passengers annually. It has three asphalt runways, with the longest measuring 9,003 by 150 feet (Runway 14/32). One runway (143/323) is designated for military use only.
Current Status: As of late 2023, Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport remains operational, serving private and charter flights, although scheduled commercial airline service has not been available since 2018. The Western Reserve Port Authority is actively pursuing efforts to reintroduce commercial airlines, particularly for flights to major hubs. In 2024, it was designated as a primary airport, securing an additional $1 million annually for five years for maintenance. The Youngstown Air Reserve Station at the airport is slated to receive new C-130J Super Hercules aircraft. The airport currently reports no operational issues and has mostly clear skies.
