🇺🇸 Peter O Knight Airport

Peter O Knight Airport (KTPF/TPF) is a public-use general aviation airport located on Davis Islands, approximately three miles southwest of downtown Tampa, Florida, US. It is owned and operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority.

The airport features two asphalt runways: Runway 04/22, measuring 3,583 ft x 100 ft (1,092 m x 30 m) and in excellent condition, and Runway 18/36, measuring 2,687 ft x 75 ft (819 m x 23 m) and in fair condition. Both runways are equipped with lighting systems.

Peter O Knight Airport primarily serves general aviation aircraft, supporting a variety of uses including flight training, public air charters, and aerial sightseeing tours. It also facilitates emergency medical operations for nearby hospitals and is utilized by local news stations for reporting. Atlas Aviation operates as the Fixed-Base Operator (FBO), providing services such as fueling, maintenance, and flight instruction.

Historically, Peter O Knight Airport holds significance as Tampa's main airport from 1935 to 1945. Built as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, it once hosted commercial airlines like Eastern and National Airlines until the runways became too short for larger aircraft, leading to commercial services relocating after 1946. The airport is named after prominent Tampa attorney and businessman Peter O. Knight.
