South Valley Regional Airport (KSVR) is a publicly owned general aviation reliever airport situated in West Jordan, Utah, approximately 13.5 miles south of Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). It is owned and operated by the Salt Lake City Department of Airports.
Type of Facility and Operations: KSVR primarily supports business-related flying, recreational flying, flight training, law enforcement/fire/rescue flying services, and air charters. It features a single asphalt runway, Runway 16/34, which is 5,862 feet in length and 100 feet in width, and is equipped with pilot-controlled medium intensity runway lights (MIRL), precision approach path indicators (PAPIs), and runway end identifier lights (REILs). The airport provides fueling (Jet A and 100LL avgas), ground handling, aircraft storage (100 tie-down spaces, 155 T-hangars and shade hangars), and maintenance facilities. Several flight schools also operate on-site.
Notable Features or History: Established in 1942 as Salt Lake City Municipal Airport No. 2, its construction was funded by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during World War II to manage growing aviation demands and alleviate congestion at the main Salt Lake airport. On February 10, 2009, the Salt Lake City Council officially renamed it South Valley Regional Airport to better reflect its location and function. The airport's ICAO code was changed from U42 to KSVR on April 17, 2025. A notable feature is the Utah National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility, which is housed on the airfield and serves as a training base for Apache and Blackhawk helicopters. The airport's elevation is 4,603 feet above mean sea level (MSL).
Current Status: South Valley Regional Airport remains an active and vital asset for the Salt Lake Valley's general aviation community, continuing to support non-commercial operations. It operates without a control tower, and while it is open 24 hours, it is typically attended Monday through Friday from 08:00 to 18:00 and Saturday through Sunday from 07:00 to 17:00.
