Notable features include a base for the Illinois National Guard's Company B, 106th Aviation Battalion and Company B(-), 935th Aviation Battalion, which operate UH-60 Black Hawk aviation companies. The airport has received funding for runway upgrades, including nearly $200,000 from the federal CARES Act in 2020 and $1.6 million from the Rebuild Illinois program.
As of August 2023, the airport had 50,000 aircraft operations annually, with 71 aircraft based there. The airport is open to the public and has an active construction notice. Deer and waterfowl are often present on and around the airport.
