Homestead ARB Airport (IATA: HST, ICAO: KHST) serves Homestead, US.

Homestead Air Reserve Base (KHST (HST)) is a United States Air Force Reserve installation located northeast of the city of Homestead in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

Type of facility and operations: Homestead ARB is an Air Force Reserve base operated by the 482nd Fighter Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command's Tenth Air Force. It functions as a fully combat-ready unit, providing multi-purpose fighter aircraft, pilots, and support personnel for worldwide deployment. The base is also home to the headquarters of Special Operations Command South and provides basing for the 24/7 air defense mission of U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) for the southeastern United States. Additionally, it supports various joint missions with other units such as the Florida Air National Guard, USCG Maritime Safety & Security Team Miami, US Customs & Border Patrol, and the Florida Army Guard's 50th Area Support Group. The airport has a control tower and operates continuously. It is not open to regular passenger flights but periodically hosts air shows, such as "Wings Over Homestead."

Notable features or history: Established in 1942 as Homestead Army Air Field during World War II, it initially served as an Air Transport Command ferry airfield and later for pilot training. After being damaged by a hurricane in 1945, it was reactivated in 1955 as Homestead Air Force Base during the Cold War. Homestead AFB played a critical role during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, serving as a staging area for U.S. aircraft and troops. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew caused extensive damage, destroying or severely damaging 97% of the base's buildings. Following this devastation, the base was rebuilt and reopened in 1994 as an Air Force Reserve facility, eventually redesignated Homestead Air Reserve Base in 2003. Since its reconstruction, Homestead ARB has focused on sustainable development and operations. It has also served as an emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle program and supported counter-narcotics operations. Notably, it is geographically situated between Everglades and Biscayne National Parks. Recently, in April 2024, Florida legislation designated Homestead Air Reserve Base as an official spaceport, effective July 1.

Current status: Homestead Air Reserve Base is operational and continues to be a vital military installation. It hosts year-round training operations for counter-land, counter-sea, and counter-air missions. The base contributes significantly to the local economy, generating over $364 million and supporting approximately 3,000 direct and indirect jobs in fiscal year 2023. As of July 1, 2024, Homestead Air Reserve Base will also officially hold spaceport status.
